So my friend Jake and I decided to pinpoint the exact moment in which Loki turns evil. While watching Thor, he figured it out. See, throughout the film, Loki’s only intentions are to become Thor’s equal and to prove his worth to Odin. He doesn’t necessarily want the throne and he doesn’t necessarily want to hurt his family. The only thing he wants is to belong. Despite being a monster, he still wants to be Odin’s son and Thor’s brother.

But when he’s about to fall off the Bridge and into the abyss of space, as it says in the screenplay, “Loki looks into his father’s face and sees nothing but anger, remorse and disappointment.”

At that moment, Loki realized that he was completely unwanted. He didn’t turn evil when he found out his true heritage. He turned evil when he was literally rejected by the one person he felt was his father, the one person he felt would forgive him for being a monster. He wanted Odin to be proud of him. He had given everything to believe in the slightest possibility that someone, in some way, would love him for what he was - and when this all fell apart, so did his mind.
